Rooted in F\u00e8rebrianges since 1949, our winegrowing history began with Albert, who founded the domaine. Along with the land, he passed on his ethos to the generations that came after him: strong values, commitment, and above all, a passion for the terroir and the wine.<\/p>\n

Andr\u00e9 (the third generation of the family) has been running the domaine with his wife Brigitte since 1986. He increased the surface area of the vineyards in the Vall\u00e9e du Petit Morin, in his family\u2019s home commune and the villages of \u00c9toges and Congy. Later, he acquired vineyard plots in the C\u00f4te des Blancs and S\u00e9zannais areas, expanding the domaine\u2019s Chardonnay terroirs.<\/p>\n

In 2014, Andr\u00e9 was joined by Adrien, a trained oenologist, to whom he entrusted the winemaking. This first harvest was a reference point: Adrien tasted and vinified the grape juices from the most promising plots one by one. He developed a deep passion for our terroir and its essence and he sought to honour this in each wine he produced. Convinced of the benefits of ageing in wood, he acquired the domaine\u2019s first barrels.<\/p>\n

Individual plot vinification went on to become an integral part of the domaine\u2019s winemaking approach, giving it a new lease on life.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Meanwhile, Brigitte and Anna\u00eblle, Adrien\u2019s mother and sister, played a major role in the domaine\u2019s development on the commercial side. Brigitte quickly recognised the potential of the Avenue de Champagne, a prestigious thoroughfare in Epernay. Here, she purchased an old 19th-century townhouse adjacent to some of the most well-known Champagne Houses. She turned the property into a guest house and wine boutique, now managed by Anna\u00eblle.<\/p>\n

Some time later, Adrien and Anna\u00eblle (both lovers of good food and wine) opened a restaurant-wine bar at 5, Avenue de Champagne in Epernay, which they named La Cave de l\u2019Avenue. Adrien has carefully curated its wine list, in which he indulges his passion for artisanal champagnes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The\u00a0Folies Berg\u00e8re<\/b> \u00a0is a\u00a0cabaret<\/a>\u00a0music hall in\u00a0Paris<\/a>, France. Located at 32 Rue Richer in the\u00a09th Arrondissement<\/a>, the Folies Berg\u00e8re was built as an\u00a0opera house<\/a>\u00a0by the architect Plumeret. It opened on 2 May 1869 as the\u00a0Folies Tr\u00e9vise<\/b>, with light entertainment including\u00a0operettas<\/a>, comic opera, popular songs, and gymnastics. It became the Folies Berg\u00e8re on 13 September 1872, named after nearby Rue Berg\u00e8re. The house was at the height of its fame and popularity from the 1890s’\u00a0Belle \u00c9poque<\/a><\/i>\u00a0through the 1920s.<\/p>\n

Revues featured extravagant costumes, sets and effects, and often nude women. In 1926,\u00a0Josephine Baker<\/a>, an\u00a0African-American<\/a>\u00a0expatriate singer, dancer and entertainer, caused a sensation at the Folies Berg\u00e8re by dancing in a costume consisting of a skirt made of a string of artificial bananas and little else.<\/p>\n

The institution is still in business, and is still a strong symbol of French and Parisian life. The m\u00e9tro stations are\u00a0Cadet<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Grands Boulevards<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In 1882,\u00a0\u00c9douard Manet<\/a>\u00a0painted his well-known painting\u00a0A Bar at the Folies-Berg\u00e8re<\/a><\/i>\u00a0which depicts a bar-girl, one of the\u00a0demimondaines<\/a>, standing before a mirror.<\/p>\n

In 1886,\u00a0\u00c9douard Marchand<\/a>\u00a0conceived a new genre of entertainment for the Folies Berg\u00e8re: the\u00a0music-hall<\/a>\u00a0revue<\/a>. Women would be the heart of Marchand’s concept for the Folies. In 30 November 1886, the Folies Berg\u00e8re, staged the first revue-style music hall show\u00a0Place au je\u00fbne\u00a0!<\/i>, featuring\u00a0Alice Berthier<\/a>\u00a0[fr<\/a>]<\/span>\u00a0and scantily clad chorus girls, was a tremendous success.<\/p>\n

In the early 1890s, the American dancer\u00a0Loie Fuller<\/a>\u00a0starred at the Folies Berg\u00e8re. In 1902, illness forced Marchand to leave after 16 years.<\/sup><\/p>\n

In 1918,\u00a0Paul Derval<\/a>\u00a0[fr<\/a>]<\/span>\u00a0(1880\u20131966) made his mark on the revue. His revues featured extravagant costumes, sets and effects, and \u00ab\u00a0small nude women\u00a0\u00bb. Derval’s small nude women would become the hallmark of the Folies. During his 48 years at the Folies, he launched the careers of many French stars including\u00a0Maurice Chevalier<\/a>,\u00a0Mistinguett<\/a>,\u00a0Josephine Baker<\/a>,\u00a0Fernandel<\/a>\u00a0and many others. In 1926, Baker, an\u00a0African-American<\/a>\u00a0expatriate singer, dancer, and entertainer, caused a sensation at the Folies Berg\u00e8re in a new revue,\u00a0La Folie du Jour<\/i>, in which she danced a number\u00a0Fatou<\/i>\u00a0wearing a costume consisting of a skirt made of a string of artificial bananas and little else, and\u00a0Un Vent De Folie<\/i>(1927).<\/p>\n

Her\u00a0erotic dancing<\/a>\u00a0and near-nude performances were renowned. The Folies Berg\u00e8re catered to popular taste. Shows featured elaborate costumes; the women’s were frequently revealing, practically leaving them naked, and shows often contained a good deal of\u00a0nudity<\/a>. Shows also played up the \u00ab\u00a0exoticness\u00a0\u00bb of people and objects from other cultures, obliging the Parisian fascination with the\u00a0n\u00e9gritude<\/a>\u00a0of the 1920s.<\/p>\n

In 1926 the facade of the theatre was given a complete make-over by the artist\u00a0Maurice Pico<\/a>\u00a0[fr<\/a>]<\/span>. The facade was redone in\u00a0Art Deco<\/a>\u00a0style, one of the many Parisian theatres of this period using the style.[<\/span>3]<\/span><\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

In 1936, Derval brought Baker from\u00a0New York City<\/a>\u00a0to lead the revue\u00a0En Super Folies<\/i>.\u00a0Michel Gyarmathy<\/a>\u00a0[de<\/a>]<\/span>, a young Hungarian arrived from\u00a0Balassagyarmat<\/a>, his hometown, designed the poster for\u00a0En Super Folies<\/i>, a show starring Baker in 1936.<\/p>\n

This began a long love story between Michel Gyarmathy, Paris, the Folies Berg\u00e8re and the public of the whole world which lasted 56 years.<\/p>\n

The funeral of Paul Derval was held on 20 May 1966. He was 86 and had reigned supreme over the most celebrated music hall in the world. His wife Antonia, supported by Michel Gyarmathy, succeeded him. In August 1974, the Folies Antonia Derval passed on the direction of the business to\u00a0H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Martini<\/a>, the empress of the night (25 years earlier she had been a showgirl in the revues). This new mistress of the house reverted to the original concept to maintain the continued existence of the last music hall which remained faithful to the tradition.<\/p>\n
