James Bond<\/a>\u00a0is a fictional character created by British novelist\u00a0Ian Fleming<\/a>\u00a0in 1953. A British secret agent working for\u00a0MI6<\/a>\u00a0under the codename 007, Bond has been\u00a0portrayed on film<\/a>\u00a0in twenty-seven productions by actors\u00a0Sean Connery<\/a>,\u00a0David Niven<\/a>,\u00a0George Lazenby<\/a>,\u00a0Roger Moore<\/a>,\u00a0Timothy Dalton<\/a>,\u00a0Pierce Brosnan<\/a>, and\u00a0Daniel Craig<\/a>.\u00a0Eon Productions<\/a>, which now holds the adaptation rights to all of\u00a0Fleming’s Bond novels<\/a>, made all but two films in the film series.[<\/span>1]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>[<\/span>2]<\/span><\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

Broccoli<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Harry Saltzman<\/a>\u00a0purchased the filming rights to Fleming’s novels.[<\/span>3]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>\u00a0They founded Eon Productions and, with financial backing by\u00a0United Artists<\/a>, produced\u00a0Dr. No<\/a><\/i>, directed by\u00a0Terence Young<\/a>\u00a0and featuring Connery as Bond.[<\/span>4]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Following its release in 1962, Broccoli and Saltzman created the holding company\u00a0Danjaq<\/a>\u00a0to ensure future productions in the\u00a0James Bond<\/i>\u00a0film series<\/a>.[<\/span>5]<\/span><\/a><\/sup>\u00a0The Eon series currently has twenty-five films, with the most recent,\u00a0No Time to Die<\/a><\/i>, released in September 2021. When Broccoli and Saltzman bought the rights to existing and future Fleming titles, the deal did not include\u00a0Casino Royale<\/a><\/i>, which had been sold to producer\u00a0Gregory Ratoff<\/a>\u00a0for a\u00a0television adaptation<\/a>\u00a0in 1954. After Ratoff’s death, the rights passed to\u00a0Charles K.
