The\u00a0Brigitte Bardot<\/b>\u00a0Foundation<\/b>\u00a0(in French:\u00a0Fondation Brigitte Bardot<\/b><\/span><\/span>\u00a0–\u00a0FBB<\/b>) is a French foundation dedicated to\u00a0animal protection<\/a>\u00a0created by French actress\u00a0Brigitte Bardot<\/a>\u00a0in 1986. Bardot’s<\/a>\u00a0initial involvement with animal rights was in 1962, after seeing photographs of the conditions in which animals were killed. Upon this, Bardot immediately began advocating against the use of painful electric shock pistols in\u00a0slaughterhouses<\/a>, <\/sup>and became a vegetarian. In 1967, Bardot was received at the\u00a0\u00c9lys\u00e9e Palace<\/a>\u00a0where she met with\u00a0Charles de Gaulle<\/a>, the then president of France. In 1977, Bardot went on to campaign against the hunting of baby Harp seals. Upon invitation from\u00a0Paul Watson<\/a>, of the\u00a0Sea Shepherd Conservation Society<\/a>, Bardot embarked on a five day trip to the ice fields in\u00a0Blanc-Sablon<\/a>, Canada, receiving significant media attention. In addition, the trip also gained Bardot the support of French president,\u00a0Val\u00e9ry Giscard d’Estaing<\/a>, leading to changes regarding the import of seal products.<\/p>\n

The Brigitte Bardot Foundation (La Fondation Brigitte Bardot<\/span><\/span>) was launched by Bardot in\u00a0Saint-Tropez<\/a>, in 1986 where she auctioned her jewellery and other personal possessions to raise 3 million French francs for her campaigns and activities.<\/p>\n

In 1988, the organization moved to\u00a0Paris<\/a>. It was here that Bardot led a television series entitled\u00a0S.O.S.
